Before I Die . . .

Public installation artist and urban planner Candy Chang converted a wall of an abandoned home in her New Orleans neighborhood into something inspiring. With chalkboard paint, stencils and some chalk, residents can now write their dreams on this wall. “It’s about turning a neglected space into a constructive one where we can learn the hopes and aspirations of the people around us.”  I would write: Before I die I want to…be a grandmother for a very long time! What would you write?

I live in New Orleans and never heard/saw this! This is in a neighborhood past the French Quarter. So when I go there next time, I will definitely have to stop by. This makes me think of the broken window theory about how if one window in a neighborhood is broken, then others will break as well, but this art reverses that. It so great to have such an inspirational piece of work in this city. I hope the artist puts more around the area, especially in poor neighborhoods.
