Honestly WTF

#2 Pencil

Posted by on

Dalton Ghetti, a carpenter by trade, began creating sculptures out of pencils 25 years ago after wanting to challenge himself by carving tiny objects. He uses three basic tools – a razor blade, a sewing needle and a sculpting knife. One of the most fascinating things about these works of art is that he has never sold them, but rather only given away to friends as gifts. Honestly, WTF!

WOWWW. I am amazed! I can’t believe that someone thought of this.. and then excelled at it! If he started doing this out of jumbo pencils (so I wouldn’t have to squint to see, haha), I would love a shelf full just like he has laid out in the 2nd and 3rd row of photos. So clever!

These are amazing! I was trying to figure out how he got the dark colors and then realized that’s the lead or graphite! What creativity and talent. Wonder what his regular carpentry looks like. Can I hire him?

Amazing! I’ve seen the pictures a while back and used the heart shape pencil as a Valentine card :-) I just wish I could make it myself…

the New Britain Museum of American Art (in CT) has a small but incredible collection of his tiny sculptures up right now. I don’t know how long they’ll be up, but I can tell you that they are just absolutely mind blowing to see in person.
